Takayoshi Terajima

* 1986, Chiba, Japan

Takayoshi Terajima studied traditional metalworking techniques in Japan. In 2018, he graduated as a master student in jewellery and metalwork from the Academy of Fine Arts. His artistic work convincingly combines the traditional Japanese craft of metal engraving with modern technologies. For his current series of portrait jewellery and wall installations, he expanded his artistic and craft practice to include AI technology as a contemporary ‘tool’. For this work, he was awarded the prestigious Herbert Hofmann Prize in 2024, and in the same year received the City of Munich’s Encouragement Award. Takayoshi Terajima organises an artists’ collective called ‘CJST’. His works are held in the Pinakothek der Moderne, the Grassi Museum in Leipzig and in private collections.

«Shaped by my background in craftsmanship, I see technology as our new tool. The idea of creating something that doesn't yet exist in this form fascinates me enormously»
