Artur Stoll (1947–2003) was born in Freiburg. After studying art history and working with Peter Dreher, he attended the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, studying under Peter Herkenrath, Horst Antes, Franz Bernhard, and Emil Schumacher. Initially devoted to drawing and sculpture, Stoll turned to painting in 1973, developing a precise yet expressive visual language. His early double exhibition with Stephan Balkenhol at Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (1973) marked a key moment in his artistic formation. Numerous exhibitions, awards, and honors followed, establishing him as a powerful and distinctive voice within the German postwar art scene.
